The Outdoors and Wildlife at Limousin Farm Holidays
Wildlife
For enthusiasts of the outdoors and wildlife, our region is a gem. It is heavily wooded and contains a massive network of rivers and lakes. Next to the farm is 250 acres of woodland which provide an ideal habitat for all native European woodland species. On the farm we commonly encounter, wild boar, badgers, foxes, roe deer, beech martins and red squirrels.
The area is also a birdwatchers paradise. We regularly see, red kites, owls, buzzards, osprey, woodpeckers, hoopoes and kingfishers, to name but a few. We have a tree hide on the farm above the wet meadow. Make sure to pack your binoculars.
The Outdoors
Life in the Limousin is rural based, people spend their time outdoors because it is beautiful and there is so much to do.
WALKING and CYCLING
There are many kilometres of tracks, in the woods and between local hamlets. We can provide you with maps and route suggestions. Bike hire is available.
LAKES and WATERSPORTS
The nearest lake with a beach is in La Souterraine, it is clean and safe for swimming, and has a playpark and restaurant.
In the area there are many lakes with watersports facilities, such as canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and waterskiing. Some of the biggest and best equipped are; Lac de Eguzon, Lac de St. Paradou and Lac de Vasivière.
There are many other lakes, ponds, and rivers for walking. Canoeing and kayaking are also available on some of the rivers.
HORSERIDING
Although we have our own horses we are not licenced to hire them out at present. However, we can organise horseriding at local trekking centres.
